This IPAF operator course is for users of `Mobile Vertical’ machines as well as Mobile Boom Lifts.
These machines are driven into the work location and will elevate without the need of supporters/stabalisers/outriggers. These machines can be driven whilst elevated.
The aim of the course:
To instruct an operator to prepare and safely operate various types of Mobile Elevating Work Platforms (MEWPs) and to obtain an IPAF MEWP Operators Licence.
Practical training includes:
- Introduction to the Actual Machine – Walk around and familiarisation with MEWP.
- Major components – Identification of each component and its function.
- Pre-use Checks and Inspection – Carry out all the required checks/inspections on the following items: Tyres, main frame, turntable, fluid levels, hoses, electrical cables, booms, cage, brakes, steering, lights, travel, controls, (lower/upper), pins/retaining bolts and decals and additional points from the machine operations manual.
- Starting/Stopping the Machine – Correct starting and shut down procedures.
- Pre-Use Function Checks – Fully function the machine and carry out full emergency lowering procedure.
The IPAF courses consist of a two-part test. The two-part test involves a theoretical and a practical test, both of which must be passed. After passing the course, you will receive a course certificate, a PAL card (Powered Access License), a logbook and a safety guide in the IPAF ePAL app. An IPAF certificate will be valid for 5 years.

Everyone above the age of 18 years can participate on this course. There are no prerequisits to enter the course.
