The course is designed for personnel who hold a valid Basic Safety Course in accordance with Norwegian oil and gas, and who want to build on this in order to receive a Basic Safety Course for seafarers.

The course contains:

  • Personal rescue techniques
  • Minimize risk of fire
  • Preparedness to respond to fire
  • Use of fire extinguishers and fire equipment
  • Precautions when using fixed fire extinguishing systems
  • Use of smoke diving equipment for fire fighting
  • General first aid principles
  • The body's structure and functions
  • Positioning of casualties
  • Unconsciousness
  • Principles for resuscitation attempts
  • Bleeding, treatment of shock, burns and chemical burns
  • Transport of injured
  • Other first aid topics

Passed course results in Certificate of proficiency for Basic safety course for seafarers.



Prerequisites


Participants must be able to document a valid Basic Safety and Emergency Preparedness Course according to Offshore Norway (Norwegian Oil and Gas)' syllabus.

Duration of the course: 3 days

  • 1 day is 8 school hours
  • 1 school hour is 45 minutes
