After completing the course, the participant must have knowledge of:
- Basic medical treatment, patient examination
- Hygiene on board
- Cardiopulmonary resuscitation, oxygen therapy and acute diseases
- Head/neck/back injuries
- Resources on board and Radio Medico
- General nursing
- Medicines and medical equipment, Intravenous fluid therapy
- Practical exercises
The course is carried out as blended learning, where the participant on their own and in advance of the course days at the center has completed an e-learning. The e-learning is followed by 1.5 course days with practical exercises.
The course participants must document a valid Certificate of Competency for deck officers or a valid course according to STCW 1978 with changes for the following training: Medical care according to STCW Table A-VI/4-2.
If the competence has expired, a 12-month sailing period with a valid certificate must be documented. The sailing time is calculated 5 years back from the start date of the new course.
Duration of the course is 2 days, where 0,5 day is e-learning that must be completed on your own, prior to the course. You will spend 1,5 days at the training centre.
- 1 day is 8 school hours
- 1 school hour is 45 minutes.
The e-learning must be 100% completed and passed before you can participate in the practical part of the course center. E-learning takes about 2.5 hours to complete.
