During the course you will learn about the following:

  • Regulations and publications GMDSS
  • Operation of a radio station with VHF DSC and Navtex receiver
  • VHF voice procedures - Emergency, Urgency, Safety procedures
  • Use and operation of emergency equipment, EPIRB and SART
  • SAR (search and rescue)
  • Batteries, control and maintenance
  • All participants must complete 2 SAR exercises

 

Passing the theoretical and practical exam provides the basis for applying for an ROC certificate from Telenor Kystradio. The certificate is valid for operation of mandated GMDSS equipment on board vessels with radio equipment for coverage area A1.



Prerequisites


No prior knowledge required, but participants must know basic English. Participants must also be 18 years of age before the ROC certificate can be issued.



Duration


The course is completed over 5 days, with the last day of the course set aside for a practical exam.



Target audience


  • Those who need a certificate for the operation of mandated GMDSS equipment on board vessels with radio equipment for coverage area A1.
  • Coastal skipper D5 certificate.
