After successful completion of the course, the participant should demonstrate sufficient knowledge, skills and understanding of ECDIS navigation and electronic charts to undertake the duties of a navigational watchofficer defined by STCW Code. This knowledge, skills and understanding should be in accordance with IMO Model Course 1.27, but is not limited to:
The course is developed in accordance with IMO Model Course 1.27, 2012 Edition. “The Operational Use of ECDIS”. K-Bridge/K-Nav ECDIS Familiarisation.
The course is divided into modules and consists of totally 17 theoretical lessons (as specified in “Contents of course”) plus practical simulator exercises, hands-on training and operator assessment. A training manual is developed for this course, covering the above subjects. This includes discussions on accidents related to wrong use/lack of proper training on ECDIS.
This course is approved by Norwegian Maritime Authorities(NMA).

It is assumed that trainees participating in this course have accomplished some formal instruction in Terrestrial Navigation, have at minimum some familiarisation with visual navigation, have accomplished a period of supervised bridge watch-keeping duties, and have prior completion of basic Radar/ARPA (MC 1 .07). Trainees should also have considerable familiarisation with personal computing operating systems.
