GWO – Basic Safety Training Onshore
The BST Onshore program equips participants with the knowledge, skills, and confidence to respond appropriately in emergencies. It also enhances safety through proper use of personal protective equipment, emergency equipment, and procedures. This part-time course includes both online and in-person training at the training centre. The online portion covers theoretical learning that must be completed before attending the centre, reducing the time required on-site. The same content is delivered as in a physical classroom, with additional support provided for any areas of uncertainty. The combination of theoretical and practical learning ensures a thorough understanding of each module topic.
The course contains the following four modules:
- Working at Heights: This module covers essential techniques and procedures for safely working at heights. Participants learn about the correct use of personal protective equipment, risk assessment, and effective methods for performing tasks at height, as well as basic rescue operations.
- First Aid: This module provides training on how to handle medical emergencies effectively and safely. The focus is on identifying signs of life-threatening conditions, applying basic first aid measures, and correctly using first aid equipment to save lives and prevent further injury until professional help is available.
- Manual Handling: This module equips participants with skills for ergonomically correct manual handling of loads. Training includes techniques for lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling, as well as methods and procedures to avoid musculoskeletal injuries.
- Fire Safety: Participants learn about fire prevention, hazard identification, and how to manage fire-related emergencies. The module includes training in the use of firefighting equipment, evacuation procedures, and ensuring that all personnel are safely evacuated and accounted for.
Certificate Validity Period:
- The certificate issued upon completion is valid for 24 months.
- Certificates and training records must be renewed before the end of this validity period.
- If a certificate expires, the participant must complete the full BST Onshore training to obtain a new training record.
