GWO - Fire Awareness
The GWO Fire Awareness module is designed to provide participants with the essential knowledge and practical skills required to effectively manage fire-related incidents in a wind turbine environment. This course focuses on fire prevention, assessment, and response, ensuring that participants are prepared to handle fire emergencies with a professional and systematic approach.
Course Content:
- Fire Prevention and Hazard Identification: Participants will learn to identify potential fire hazards in a wind turbine setting and implement measures to prevent the outbreak of fires. The course emphasizes proactive risk management and the importance of maintaining a safe working environment.
- Fire Assessment and Judgment: The course equips participants with the ability to make informed decisions when confronted with a fire situation. They will be trained to assess the severity of a fire, determine the appropriate course of action, and select the correct firefighting media based on the classification of the fire.
- Evacuation and Accountability: In scenarios where a fire cannot be controlled, participants will be responsible for coordinating the safe evacuation of personnel. The course covers procedures for ensuring that all individuals are accounted for, emphasizing the importance of calm and efficient management during emergencies.
- Firefighting Techniques: Participants will gain hands-on experience in using basic handheld firefighting equipment. The course teaches the proper techniques for safely extinguishing initial fires, provided the situation is deemed safe. This practical training ensures that participants can respond swiftly and effectively to contain and mitigate fire incidents.
Certificate Validity Period:
- The certificate issued upon completion is valid for 24 months.
- Certificates and training records must be renewed before the end of this validity period.
- If a certificate expires, the participant must complete the full Fire Awareness training to obtain a new training record.

Personnel who will be working in the wind industry or related fields. Personnel that perform job functions that have been risk assessed by their employer or their workplace duty holder as a function, where training according to one or more modules of the BST standard may mitigate of the identified risks.
